Water saving has a water management program from cradle to grave. Water is sourced from a spring cleaned using GANS technology, measured and then returned to the environment clean through a reed bed filter. Energy-wise we are on a path to solar and self sufficiency. Energy saving lighting and appliances have already been installed. Limited solar is already used but there is a way to go. We recycle everything except polystyrene where we have not yet found a solution. Chickens, pigs, earthworms and compost are first in line and what does not fit there is separated and recycled. Or primary goal is however to reduce waste. As much as possible we source locally although a vast amount of our food supplies are from our farm to plate concept. We have an organic vegetable garden, own chickens for eggs, cows for milk, we bake our own artisanal bread and even make our own cheese and yogurt. We cater for vegans, vegetarians, lactose or gluten intolerances and all allergies. Where possible we opt for the more eco choice for everything we buy. The farm is also a haven for a host of rescue animals. Our horses are trained using the horse whispering techniques too.The entire lodge has been constructed around alternative and green design. We have used straw bales, cob, rammed earth sun dries brick, stone from the farm, thatch cut on the farm for all the buildings. Some of the ruined structures that we have restored are historical buildings dating back to aroung1890. We have a mentorship program where we develop local villagers to also take part in the tourism opportunities around the lodge. One such development is the construction of a star gazing hammock camp where a local villager tells his traditional folk stories. Its his business and although we are still assisting its already a completely own enterprise. Sustainability is a journey and its something we all should do do and we can all do better because its the right thing to do.
